WESC Open Day – Tuesday 02 June 2015, 10:00 – 14:00

Are you exploring pre and post 16 options for a young person or adult (up to 25 years old) who is visually impaired (VI)?

Do you want to find out how WESC Foundation can support VI learners in mainstream school, colleges and universities?

WESC Foundation is holding an open day at their Exeter campus aimed at parents, carers, commissioners, teachers and SEN professionals to find out all about WESC services including:

• the school and college • outreach services • social enterprises • research & development • assessments (including the Cortical/Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) Range assessment) • a tour of the campus • lunch.

New social groups for adults with Autism & Aspergers

An opportunity for adults with Autism or Aspergers Syndrome to meet up, socialise and make friends.  Just turn up, no need to book.

Dates coming up for meetings are:

  • 2nd Wednesday of every month – starting 13th May 2015
  • Meet at Options Centre, Dewsbury
  • 2nd Friday of every month – starting 8th May 2015
  • Meet at Brian Jackson House, Huddersfield Town Centre

Bumpy off-road activity sessions for Spring Bank Half Term

Bumpy run sessions for young people with disabilities and special needs, which allow them to ride as a passenger, around our 9 acre park, in either our off road buggy or quad bike.

They have sessions running on:

Tuesday 26th May at: 9.30 – 11am/ 11.30-1pm/ 2pm-3.30pm

Local & independent parental support for EHC assessments and SEND reforms

Core Assets Children’s Services are currently working with the Council for Disabled Children to deliver the new Independent Support Service in Kirklees.  They provide free, independent help and support to families and young people finding their way through the changes to the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) system.

In Kirklees they are working alongside KIAS to offer parental choice around support during new requests for EHC Assessment and taking referrals for Transfer Review work, for those who already have a Statement of SEN or a Learning Difficulty Assessment (LDA).

Core Assets are holding their first Kirklees Independent Support drop-in, which will be held on Monday 1st June at Yorkshire Childrens Centre, Brian Jackson House, Huddersfield from 9am to 12pm.

Whizz-kidz taster day 8th April 2015 – come and join in the fun

On 8th April, Whizz-Kidz, alongside SEN Champions, are holding a taster event at Brighouse Sports Club from 10am-1pm.

Whizz-Kidz is a children’s charity with the largest network of young disabled people in the UK.

The day is aimed at young people from West Yorkshire (year 9 plus) who use wheelchairs and/or mobility aids, and their families. It is an opportunity to find out about what Whizz-Kidz does and take part in some fun activities.

‘Whole Autism Family’ fundraising event – Saturday 4th April 2015

Come see the chance to see some of The whole autism family members do live bush tucker trails!! Not for the faint-hearted!

All money raised going to The whole autism family to enable them to continue supporting and raising awareness.

Super Saturday clubs at Eureka

Eureka! in Halifax hold Saturday morning clubs for disabled children aged 3 – 11 years and their families.  The clubs are free and run from 10am – 12 noon.

The clubs are running on the following dates during 2015:

  • 25th April: Children with autism aged 3 – 6 yrs
  • 9th May: Children with autism aged 7 – 11 yrs
  • 13th June and 10th October: Children with hearing impairment
  • 11th July and 5th December: Children with Down Syndrome
  • 12th September: Children with visual impairment
  • 7th November: Children who are wheelchair users/have impaired mobility
