Electronic Village Hall – new courses June 2015

The Disabled People’s Electronic Village Hall (DP-EVH) is an I.T. training organisation delivering learning to disabled and disadvantaged adults throughout West Yorkshire.

They are based at: Dewsbury Town Hall, Wakefield Old Road, Dewsbury, WF12 8DG.  Tel: (01924) 453502.

They are running Introduction to IT and CV writing courses throughout June 2015.

PCAN Social events June-August

Hi folks, please see below our latest social event dates.  We have two new venues: The Quaker House at Paddock, Huddersfield (evening event) and the Greenwood Centre, Ravensthorpe (daytime event).  The Greenwood Centre is child friendly with toys for pre-school children and small sensory room.  All events are open to all parents and carers of children with additional needs in Kirklees, friendly welcome guaranteed! Free event for Parent Carers Monday 8th June

PCAN are holding a pamper event on Monday 8th June at Northorpe Hall, Mirfield from 11 am to 4 pm to celebrate Carers Week and all the hard work we all do. Independent support about EHCPs – drop in session 1st June 2015

Independent support is available at a drop in session taking place at the Yorkshire Children’s Centre, Brian Jackson House, Huddersfield on Monday 1st June between 9am – 12pm.

Kirklees Carers Charter Events

Carers are invited to attend one of the following events to help develop a formal commitment stating what carers can expect from Kirklees Council, NHS North Kirklees CCG and NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG.

Two events are taking place on:

  • 9th June 2015 – Huddersfield Town Hall 9.30 – 12.30.
  • 10th June 2015 – Woodkirk Valley Golf Club, Dewsbury 12 – 3pm

Kirklees Disabled Sports Club

Kirklees Disabled Sports Club have moved their sessions to the new Huddersfield Leisure Centre.

They meet every Monday between 7.30 – 9pm to participate in a number of sports including badminton, bowls, curling, swimming, football and table tennis.

The club has been running nearly forty years solely by volunteers. No age limit as long as children are supervised by parent or carer.

Cost is £2.00 per session until membership is paid. Junior membership is £12.00 and Adults £22.00 per year. They also run a 21+ group that go on outings during the summer months. More information is available on request.

They welcome volunteers to ensure the club carries on to provide a social outlet.  For more details please contact:

Northern Ballet – ‘Ability’ sessions for adults with learning disabilities

Ability is a weekly dance course specifically created for people with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Through day long sessions the course will enable people to train, create and perform alongside professional dancers in a state of the art studio in Quarry Hill.

Half term holiday activities for young people with a disability

Compass Bridge, based in Elland, are offering a variety of fun activities including

  • Outdoor Activities
  • Woodwork
  • Kayaking
  • Archery
  • Climbing
  • Bush Craft

Dates available are: Weds 27th, Thurs 28th and Fri 29th May 2015; running 9am to 3:30pm (please note that activities may change due to weather conditions and availability).

Clowning and Circus Skills workshop day – half term activity

Dark Horse Theatre is running a clowning and circus skills day during the May half term holiday.

  • Date: Wednesday 27th May
  • Venue: Lawrence Batley Theatre

You will have the chance to work with professionals to perfect your lion taming, build the courage to walk the tightrope, dazzle us with your acrobatics, and laugh your socks off when you’re clowning.

To get involved you need to be:

• Enthusiastic

• Between 13-18 years old

• Live in Kirklees

• Have a learning disability (if you need one to one support you can bring someone with you).
