After last year’s success May Contain Nuts is back, this time in several locations in Huddersfield town centre to celebrate great local independent businesses & their passion for the arts.  (Please note that this festival is a general open event and is not specifically for children.)

2PM | Hoot Creative Arts, Bates Mill, HD1 3DX
The Mardy Gras
Hoot’s Batley based music group, ‘Another Planet’, mutates into a parading augmented kazoo and percussion ensemble with a bizarre take on New Orleans jazz – imagine Louis Armstrong was born in a parallel universe. Join us for the trip, kicking off at Hoot at 2pm & appearing throughout the day between other performances, taking us from one venue to the next.

Original & moving poetry readings from the talented members of The Write Stuff.

4PM Vinyl Tap | 42 John William St
Hoot’s Guitar Orchestra premieres their Mariachi inspired suite & more.

An opportunity to see an outstanding, thought provoking exhibition of work produced in the first year of Going Sane? Videos, music, installation, poetry, performance, photography and more – for one evening only.

Hoot Creative Arts is a flourishing arts health organisation offering people the opportunity to get involved in music, dance & other creative activities as a way of improving physical & emotional wellbeing.

NHS North Kirklees Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) online survey

In a previous post we informed you that NHS North Kirklees Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are holding an event on Wednesday 8th July 2015 at 2pm-4pm at Batley Town Hall.

The event has been arranged as an opportunity to hear about the work that the CCG has been doing, their priorities, challenges and plans for the future. As well as hearing the presentations, you will be able to participate in discussion groups about transforming Primary Care.

For those of you who not attending the event but who wish to have your views included they have now developed a survey based around the discussion groups at the event and would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete it online by Monday 27th July 2015.

British Sign Language Courses in Huddersfield beginning September 2015

The Huddersfield Deaf Centre at 53a Trinity Street, Huddersfield HD1 4DN are going to be running two new BSL courses starting September 2015.

Level 1 BSL – suitable for beginners, will commence on 22nd September and will run for 30 weeks on Tuesday evenings.

Level 2 BSL – for those wishing to progress from Level 1 will commence on 16th September and will run for 30 weeks on Wednesday evenings.

Do you know a sporting star? Kirklees Sports Awards

The first ever Kirklees Community Sports Awards to recognise and reward those who are involved in sport within our area have been launched by the Huddersfield Examiner, in association with Huddersfield Town Football Club.

They aim to recognise sports teams, individuals and the unseen work done by volunteers in our local clubs and societies.  There are several categories including Disabled Athlete of the Year.

Batley Cricket Club – disability cricket events

Batley Cricket Club have been selected to become a hub for disability cricket through all age groups and will be holding regular events including learning zones that will encourage player pathways.

They have recently hosted a Yorkshire Terriers cricket game (see image below) as part of the National Disabled Cricket League.

Spirituality & Mental Health Conference 1st July 2015

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is co-hosting a conference with the University of Huddersfield that explores the topic of spirituality, its use in healthcare and the implications for integrating this into practice.

 Venue: University of Huddersfield Business School

Time: 9.30-4.30

Key note speakers include:

  • Dr Sarah Eagger, consultant psychiatrist and executive member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Special Interest Group in Spirituality,
  • Mike Gartland, head of pastoral and spiritual care at the Trust

During the conference, the Trust will also be sharing more information about Spirit in Mind – an innovative project that brings together community based spiritual organisations in collaboration with the Trust.

If you have an interest in spirituality and its implications for healthcare, you may be interested to attend. It’s free to attend for NHS staff and SWYPFT service users and carers. For all others there is a £25 fee. Booking is essential.

Huddersfield Leisure Centre – Aqua Splash on Friday evenings

Aqua Splash, Friday evening 7pm – 8.30pm in the training pool

Aqua Splash is a family swim time specifically for disabled children and young people and children and young people with special educational needs and their families.

 The pool water is warm, there are activities and music and more staff on hand to provide assistance.

 Normal pool entry charges will apply.
