Thriving Kirklees – changes in healthcare services for children and young people in kirklees .

Parents!!! We need you!
We are pleased to announce that Healthcare services for children and young people in Kirklees will, from 1 April, be provided by a partnership called ‘Thriving Kirklees’. Locala is the lead organisation and we are joined in the partnership by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Northorpe Hall, Home-Start and Yorkshire Children’s Centre.
We are looking for interested parents to join us at a social event in Huddersfield Town centre to help shape and improve Children’s services.
To kick start a series of sessions we would like to explore the introduction of a Single Point of Contact. This telephone number will be the main route for parents contacting health care services including Health visiting, Nursery Nursing, School Nursing and also Emotional Health and Wellbeing services.
VENUE: Brian Jackson House, 2 New North Parade, Huddersfield HD1 5JP
TIME: 1-230pm (please note this is a very flexible session so arrive and leave when you need to!)

Opening Doors Kirklees Getting People Out & About.

Disability Sport Yorkshire and Leonard Cheshire Disability are delighted
to give details of a new project for Kirklees

“Opening Doors Kirklees”

It is a project to help disabled people to get out and about in Kirklees
with the aims of reducing social isolation, and improving general
well-being of disabled people.

The project involves a number of different approaches to encourage
disabled people to access social and leisure opportunities across
Kirklees.
Including:
•       An online forum for disabled people, their families and friends to
share their experiences, make recommendations and
make friends.
•       Volunteer scheme to support disabled people in accessing
opportunities of their choice
•       Directory of Opportunities
•       Ambassadors Programme, where disabled people can access training and
become a role model for their chosen activity.
•       Activity Fund, where groups can apply for funding to support
equipment, facility or delivery costs

We are currently recruiting and training volunteers to be 1:1 buddies to
help people access activities of their choice.

We are also taking referrals for people who would like to get out, but
need a helping hand. If you know someone who needs help, let us know.

For further details of the project, or to make an enquiry on how to get
out and about in Kirklees, please contact Lorraine Wrigley

Reminder – Survey into people’s experiences of Adult Autism Services in Calderdale and Kirklees

A small number of adults with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) have contacted Healthwatch Calderdale and Healthwatch Kirklees to discuss some difficulties that they are having in getting an initial diagnosis, and in accessing appropriate clinical support following a diagnosis.

Because of this they would like to have a better understanding of the issues that people with ASC face in Calderdale and Kirklees, so that they can raise them with the appropriate organisations and hopefully improve people’s experiences.

To do this we have designed two surveys, one for people with ASC to complete so that they can tell us about their experiences, and another one for the parents, partners and carers of adults with ASC to use to give us their views and ideas.

More information is available on their website here
