Calling all primary teachers or those with an education background

Calling all primary teachers or those with an education background
There is a consultation out at the moment from the Department for Education about assessments in primary school and another one focussing on the outcomes following on from the Rochford Review last year for those working at below the levels of usual primary age assessment.  PCAN can comment on this as an organisation (you are free to comment as an individual if you wish). If you want your views to be included as PCAN views then please read the document and pass on any comments to Johanna@pcankirklees.org by Thursday 15th June.  The consultation can be found at www.gov.uk and search department for education consultations (the one you want requires you to “see more consultations” they only show the 2 latest ones”.  When you send your comments please say whether they refer to the general consultation or the Rochford Review and read the questions the DfE ask so you can let me know what you want PCAN to say.  Thank you very much.

Dying Matters Awareness Week 8 -14 May 2017 – join us for some local events

Dying Matters Awareness Week 8 -14 May 2017 – join us for some local events

Talking about death, dying and bereavement is a subject that many people find challenging for understandable reasons. This year is the eighth annual Dying Matters Awareness Week, providing an unique opportunity to place the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement firmly on people’s agendas. During Dying Matters Awareness Week, hundreds of related events are held across England and Wales, reaching thousands of people. The events are boosted by extensive media coverage, local, national and international.

This year, we ask What Can You Do….? This aims to get people more active in planning for dying and death and helping support those who may need it in times of grief and bereavement, be they friends, family or in your wider community. This emphasises that people only get one chance to have their dying wishes met.  Campaigners say this is why it is vital to talk, plan and make arrangements for the end of life before it is too late.

For the first time, NHS North Kirklees CCG, NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG, Locala CIC and Kirkwood Hospice have come together to host a series of events and activities across Kirklees along with raising awareness across different care settings.

“Do your thing” various activities in Huddersfield and Batley

Putting a shout out to everybody because even though the Do Your Thing project currently has plenty of groups/activities, either up and running or in the pipeline, what we really need now is more people attending them, not least because there’s no activity without members, but because we really need to ensure they will be as robust as possible by the time the project finishes in six months’ time.
