Dying Matters Awareness Week 8 -14 May 2017 – join us for some local events
Talking about death, dying and bereavement is a subject that many people find challenging for understandable reasons. This year is the eighth annual Dying Matters Awareness Week, providing an unique opportunity to place the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement firmly on people’s agendas. During Dying Matters Awareness Week, hundreds of related events are held across England and Wales, reaching thousands of people. The events are boosted by extensive media coverage, local, national and international.
This year, we ask What Can You Do….? This aims to get people more active in planning for dying and death and helping support those who may need it in times of grief and bereavement, be they friends, family or in your wider community. This emphasises that people only get one chance to have their dying wishes met. Campaigners say this is why it is vital to talk, plan and make arrangements for the end of life before it is too late.
For the first time, NHS North Kirklees CCG, NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG, Locala CIC and Kirkwood Hospice have come together to host a series of events and activities across Kirklees along with raising awareness across different care settings.

“Do your thing” various activities in Huddersfield and Batley
Putting a shout out to everybody because even though the Do Your Thing project currently has plenty of groups/activities, either up and running or in the pipeline, what we really need now is more people attending them, not least because there’s no activity without members, but because we really need to ensure they will be as robust as possible by the time the project finishes in six months’ time.
