Performers wanted – London 2012 Paralympic Team Welcome Ceremonies.

The National Youth Theatre of GB are looking to recruit young performers with disabilities aged 16-25 to join our NYT cast of 60 for the London 2012 Paralympic Team Welcome Ceremonies.

This summer NYT are producing and performing both the Olympic and Paralympic Team Welcome Ceremonies, which take place within the Athletes Village in Stratford. Over the summer the Team Welcome Ceremonies will welcome a total of 16,000 athletes and teams from 204 countries to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The performance will last 30 minutes and will be a site-specific spectacle repeated up to eight-times a day to mark the official ‘signing in’ of each country and athlete to the Games.

The ceremonies will be directed by Paul Roseby, Artistic Director of NYT, and will be a modern twist on the traditional notion of welcome, inspired by our two Elizabethan ages. Our ‘Punk Pageant’ will be a visual feast with large-scale puppets, acrobats and stilts and will feature the music of the band Queen.

After the great success of the Olympic Team Welcome Ceremonies, we’re looking to extend the opportunity to take part in the Paralympic Ceremonies to young performers with disabilities from outside of the National Youth Theatre. We’ll be developing new material for the Paralympic Team Welcome Ceremonies, to add to elements of the production that featured in the Olympic Team Welcome Ceremonies.
