Creative art project Thursdays 10am – 12pm in Huddersfield

Carers Count, in conjunction with Hoot ‘Going Sane’ project are offering you an opportunity to develop your creative side and produce a fantastic piece of artwork to be displayed, published or taken home to share with your family and friends.

Being part of the Going Sane project means working with 2 artists for 10 sessions, every Thursday from 10am to 12pm, starting on Thursday October 15th 2015 at Carers Count, 8 Upperhead Row, Huddersfield.

You will make work as a group, create something fantastic to be displayed and performed.

All the work will go on the Going Sane Website: www.goingsane.co.uk and will be part of a festival in 2016. No previous artistic skills needed – this is about being inspired, doing something new, having a go and meeting people. The sessions are free but they would prefer you to come to all 10 sessions. Free Weekly drop in printing session

West Yorkshire Print Workshop are running free weekly drop-in sessions on the following dates:

Oct 6th,13th, 20th, 27th & 3rd Nov

Tuesdays 3.30-5.30

A chance to have some fun with various printmaking techniques including drypoint, blockprint, monoprint and collagraph using inspiration from our daily lives.

Run by artist Shaeron Caton-Rose, the final prints will be made into a book
sculpture which will go on show alongside other art pieces made by students from Hollybank School, the brothers at the Community of the Resurrection and the artist herself. You will also have your own handmade prints to take home and will have the opportunity to make them into your own artist’s book to keep.

Sessions are run in a safe, positive and well supported environment.
Fully accessible venue and facilities

All materials provided, please bring an apron or wear suitable clothing.  All sessions are FREE just pop in…

Spirit in Mind – Healthcare and faith partnerships at the heart of community wellbeing

Spirit in Mind is an innovative project to develop new patterns of collaboration and support between faith organisations and the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS

Across the locations served by SWYPT – Barnsley, Calderdale, Wakefield and Kirklees – faith organisations have a strong and committed local presence together with a genuine concern to support the wellbeing of both their members and the wider community.

The vision of Spirit in Mind is one which seeks to draw on the wisdom and experience of spiritual and religious understandings of health and wellbeing to help address current social problems such as stress, isolation, relationship breakdown and substance misuse.

Ability Dance sessions with Northern Ballet

Ability is a weekly dance course specifically created for people with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Through day long sessions the course will enable people to train, create and perform alongside professional dancers in state of the art studios in Quarry Hill.

The course aims to:

  • Improve participants health and fitness
  • Develop communication and social interaction skills
  • Raise self-esteem and develop a sense of achievement
  • Enable participants’ creativity and expression

PCAN Kirklees Conference 29th September 2015

This September our conference will focus on Special Educational Needs and what you need to know about changes since the Children & Families Act was implemented last year.

There will be information workshops throughout the day and evening, covering the various stages of your child’s educational journey and preparing for adulthood.

The daytime sessions run from 10am to 3pm, with registration from 9.30am.

The evening sessions run from 7pm to 9.30pm, with registration from 6.30pm.

The venue is John Smiths Stadium, Stadium Way, Huddersfield HD1 6PG.

Get Active Sessions with Kirklees Active Leisure

Get Active Leisure Sessions

This is a session for adults and youngsters with additional needs to try out local sports facilities and get active!

Get Active sessions are led by qualified instructors and include lots of fun-filled activities such as curling, boccia, badminton, bean bag throws, football, short tennis, table tennis, swimming, aerobic dance class*  and much more! 

  • Monday – Huddersfield Leisure Centre
    • Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • Wednesday – Dewsbury Sports Centre
    • Time: 10.30am – 2.30pm

 Price: £4.30 or £3.25 with a Kirklees passport

Family Sign Language Course

Family Sign Language (FSL) is a curriculum developed by NDCS and it is unlike traditional British Sign Language (BSL) courses.  FSL specifically focusses on teaching the signs families need for children in the early years to support communication development.

FSL teaches the signs and phrases needed for nursery rhymes, stories, playing make-believe games as well as the tools for practical communication about food, sleeping and nappy changing.  FSL encourages the whole family to participate in sharing the learning, communicating and signing.

The course will be running over 6 weeks on Wednesday Evenings

9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th September, 7th, 14th October.

Time:  19.30 – 21.00

Place: The Hudawi Centre, Great Northern Street, Huddersfield HD1 6BG

 Cost: FREE

Kirklees Deaf Children’s Society would like to invite Parents, Carers, Friends of Deaf Children.  (Children over the age of 10 years are welcome!)
