Kirklees Deaf Children’s Society (KDCS) – upcoming events

Here are some upcoming events run by Kirklees Deaf Children’s Society:

AGM – Thursday 19th November at 7pm, Hudawi Cultural Centre, Great Northern Street, Huddersfield, HD1 6BG (plenty of onsite parking available)

Rachael Reynolds, a parent member of KDCS who is also deaf herself, will be coming.  She will be bringing her trainee ‘Service Hearing Dog’ puppy called Gracie.  Please come and bring your children who would be interested to meet Gracie. (Refreshments will be provided.)

There will be a short business meeting during the evening.  Please attend so that you can let the society know what activities and events you and your family would like to do with KDCS.

Christmas Party for 0-7year olds 

A Christmas Party for  younger children and their siblings is being held on:

Saturday 12th December 1pm – 2.45 pm at Rascals Play Gym & Party Venue, Rouse Mill Lane, Batley WF17 5QB

Kirklees Council Budget Consultation

Kirklees’ annual budget consultation is open for your participation – they are developing new ways of working and would like your help to ‘weigh up’ some options for how we do things differently. You can also take part in a community challenge to think about what you can do differently for your community.

Disability Sport Yorkshire – upcoming events

Disability Sport Yorkshire will be hosting some events in the Kirklees area.

These events will be fully inclusive, and will include a competitive element for those who want to compete; and a “have a go” element for those who just want to try something new.

The events will be supported by local partner organisations in Kirklees, which currently provide suitable activities for these client groups.

Contact a Family campaign against tax credit cuts

A staggering 149,000 disabled children could be affected by the tax credit cuts next year.  Contact a Family is leading the campaign against the cuts, calling on the Chancellor to rethink the cuts for disabled children. Kirklees Autism Show – 11th November 2015, 1 – 5pm

Kirklees Council is holding its third annual Kirklees Autism Show.  This year the event is being held at the John Smith Stadium on Wednesday, 11 November 2015 from 1pm-5pm.   

There will be an opportunity to speak to professionals to find out more about things that are important to people on the autism spectrum, such as employment, transition, housing, leisure activities, diagnosis, activities, education and much more.

There are 50 stalls, covering:

  • Local autism support groups and other SEN support groups
  • Careers and employment advice
  • Activity providers
  • Further education
  • Council and local health services
  • West Yorkshire Police
  • Housing advice
  • Assistive Technology
  • National autism charities
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Diagnosis information

Free family art activities

A weekly drop in printing session is being run by West Yorkshire Print Workshop and the following dates are still to run:

Oct 20, 27 & 3 Nov  – Tuesdays 3.30-5.30

You will have chance to have some fun with various printmaking techniques including drypoint, blockprint, monoprint and collagraph using inspiration from our daily lives.

Run by artist Shaeron Caton-Rose, the final prints will be made into a book sculpture which will go on show alongside other art pieces made by students from Hollybank School, the brothers at the Community of the Resurrection and the artist herself. You will also have your own handmade prints to take home and will have the opportunity to make them into your own artist’s book to keep.

Fully accessible venue and facilities.  All sessions are FREE just pop in…

EHC & Me – an evening with Kirklees Council and Core Assets

Wednesday 21st October 2015,  6 – 9pm

 Whether it be Children and Young People who currently have a Statement for Special Educational Needs or Learning Difficulties Assessment that will be converting soon to the new Education, Health, Care (EHC) plans or anyone due to go through the assessment process for a brand new EHC plan you are invited to attend at Brian Jackson House for a presentation with Core Assets and the Free support they can offer as an organisation, in line with the change from SEND’s to EHC Plans

There will be a selection of fun & interactive workshops & drop in support sessions around Young People with additional needs and their future options.
