Have your say on Changes to Walk-in services in Kirklees

Walk-in services currently operate from two locations in North Kirklees – a nurse-led service within Dewsbury District Hospital and a GP-led service at School House GP Practice, also in Dewsbury.

Walk-in services have been a popular NHS service for a number of years. They were established to fulfil two important roles. The first is to allow patients in need of urgent attention for problems not serious enough to warrant attendance at A&E access to medical help outside normal surgery hours. The second is to provide primary care services to people who are not registered with a local GP practice, be they residents or visitors to the area.

The change to the walk-in service will mean moving the current service at School House Practice to become part of an expanded service next to the A&E department at Dewsbury District Hospital. It will be led by GPs with other primary care professionals on hand. Over the next year, the service will move to being open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The existing service at School House Practice is available between 12 noon and 8pm on weekdays and 8am and 8pm at weekends. The existing service at Dewsbury and District Hospital is available between 8.30am and 7.30pm on weekdays and 10am to 6pm at weekends.
