Clubs for the New Year at Eureka

Super Sunday and holiday clubs for 2018

Our FREE clubs for disabled children and their families are getting a new look for 2018 as we’ll be focussing on six artistic themes, repeated through the year. Children with any disability are welcome at each club, except for three sessions which will be for children with autism only. All sessions start with a short family quest to get you inspired before you get stuck in! Our clubs are run by our team of experienced Enablers, who will make sure that the activities are accessible to all. And remember: it doesn’t cost a penny to attend. They’re completely FREE!

  • Stop-motion For all those budding film makers out there! Using our iPads (or your own phone) we’ll be making simple animations.
  • Clay Play Time to get messy! Learn basic clay techniques to create a masterpiece.
  • Treasure Box Create a personalised keepsake to tell your family story. We’ll provide everything you need but your box will extra special if you include things from home – photos, old keys, broken jewellery etc.
  • Sculpture We’ll be upcycling junk materials to create sculpture! The aim is to create a family masterpiece for you to take home.
  • Printmaking Design a printing block and print onto paper. Frame your masterpiece or cover your favourite book – it’s up to you!
  • Tie-dye Create a crazy patterned t-shirt or tote bag, or bring an item of your own clothing to dye.

Important Consultation – is your child’s school meeting their needs?

Support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Kirklees Council want to hear your views!

All councils have to look at and review the ways they support children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) in early years’ settings, schools and colleges. This will help them plan how they will do this in the future.

Kirklees Council has a vision for children and young people:

“Our vision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is the same for all children and young people – that they achieve well in their early years, at school and in college and lead happy and fulfilled lives a clear vision for our children and young people with special educational needs.”

About the Review: (message from Kirklees Council)

We want our review to help us with achieving our vision. We want to make sure that children and young people get the support they require to meet their special educational needs. In order to help us with this, we are asking a range of people including parents and carers, children and young people, head teachers, school governors, heads of colleges and early years providers for their views about the support we currently provide in early years settings, schools and colleges for children and young people with SEN.

As well as gathering everyone’s views, we are also looking at our data to help us with our planning for the future, for example, looking at where we may have increases in special educational needs, what differences there are across different areas in Kirklees or within different age groups etc.

The information we get will help us write a plan to show how we will support learning and development for children and young people with SEN in the future. The plan will cover special educational provision from early years to post 16. It will show how we will make sure that our SEN provision is suitable to meet changing needs and how we will address any gaps in provision that we find in the review. The plan will be published by 31 March 2018.

You can give your views by means of an online survey here or you can come along to the following events and get more information and/or fill in a survey while you are there.  Staff from Kirklees Council will be there with PCAN Trustees.  PCAN will also be bringing copies of the consultation to the regular social events and can also help you fill them in online (dates here).  The deadline for responses is Friday 15th December. The dates, times and venues for the Kirklees events are:

The Methodist Mission, 3-13 Lord Street, Huddersfield HD1 1QA

Friday 24 November from 10 – 12noon

Research participants required for a survey on parenting strategies.

Research open to parents/carers of children aged 6 – 16 who live in the UK/Europe.

We are looking for parents/carers of children who experience difficulties (including, but not limited to children on the autism spectrum), to take part, as well as parents of children with no particular problems.

Taking part would involve you completing some questionnaires about your perspectives on your child’s behaviour, and the strategies that you use to manage it. The questionnaires are split into five sections, and should take about 45 minutes – one hour to complete altogether.
