Accessible walks for people with disabilities

Experience Community – a Community Interest Company based in Huddersfield  provide information and short films about access to the countryside for people with disabilities, mainly in the Kirklees area.

They also arrange guided walks for people with disabilities and the wider community.  The walks are at a variety of locations in Kirklees including Dewsbury Country Park, along a section of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Marsden and Slaithwaite, and along the Huddersfield Broad Canal from Aspley Marina to Leeds Road sports complex – films of some of these walks are on the website. They are aiming to add further locations for walks in the coming months, in addition to offering hand cycling as an alternative activity in the near future.

Much of their work is carried out with the help of volunteers and there are opportunities available for people to train to become walk leaders and walk assistants to help participants get to, and take part in, the walks.

Some FREE taster sessions are on offer:

  • Thursday 10th July (Dewsbury Country Park)
  • Tuesday 15th July (Leeds Road Sports Complex)
  • Wednesday 23rd July (Dewsbury Country Park)
  • Monday 28th July (Leeds Road Sports Complex)
