Active for Autism – a project looking at autism and sport

The National Autistic Society are developing an accredited training course to deliver to professional sports coaches, physical education teachers and small club volunteer coaches to fully involve children and young people with autism in sport.

The project aims to increase:

1. The confidence and skills of sports practitioners, delivering inclusive sport for young people with autism and enabling them to engage and involve vulnerable young people in meaningful ways
2. The levels of participation of young people with autism in sport, empowering them to make informed choices about their physical activity and to sustain their involvement over time
3. The self-esteem and wellbeing of young people with autism through their participation in sport, improving their enjoyment and sense of achievement in their physical abilities
